Privacy Policy
Sottocut runs on your machine. What leaves it depends on how you use the Co-Editor: on bring-your-own-key (BYO) plans we collect nothing beyond the license activation described below; on managed plans your Co-Editor requests pass through our server to the AI provider, and we record only the usage we need to bill you. Either way, your video, audio, and project files never leave your machine. Here is exactly what is and isn't sent, and to whom.
What the app sends us
On BYO plans: nothing beyond license activation. Sottocut sends no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports, no usage data, and no content to AI Founder OS LLC. Your footage, transcripts, projects, and API key stay on your machine. The only requests the app makes to us are the license activation described below and the update checks described further down.
License activation (all paid plans and trials). Activating, validating, or deactivating a license key contacts our licensing server and transmits the key, a device fingerprint (so we can enforce your plan's device limit), and the app version — plus, like any web request, your IP address. Starting a free trial sends the same device fingerprint. This is license validation, not content: no footage, no transcripts, no project data, and no prompts are ever part of these requests.
On managed plans: so we can run the Co-Editor without your own API key, your Co-Editor requests are routed through our server (the Sottocut licensing worker) to Anthropic. Those requests contain your prompts and the context you include — which can include transcript text and any screenshot you paste into the Co-Editor. We do not store the content of those requests. We record only aggregate usage per license — token counts, request counts, and how many projects (Co-Editor sessions of up to 24 hours) you have used in the billing period — which we need to bill you and enforce your plan's limits. Your raw video, audio, and project files are never sent, on any plan.
How long we keep it. We retain these aggregate usage counts for as long as your license exists and for a reasonable period afterward for billing, accounting, and abuse prevention; we do not otherwise set them to expire. Free-trial entitlement records are purged automatically about 60 days after the trial. Because we store no request content, there is no request content to retain or delete. If you choose to send in-app feedback, the message you type — along with the app version and plan tier — is stored on our infrastructure for operator review and deleted automatically after 180 days.
What the app sends to Anthropic
- BYO plans (your key). The Co-Editor sends your prompts — which may include transcript text and screenshots you supply — directly from your machine to Anthropic using your own API key, governed by Anthropic's terms and privacy policy. We are not a party to those requests and never see them.
- Managed plans (our key). The same request content is sent to Anthropic to generate the Co-Editor's responses, but it is routed through our server, which forwards it to Anthropic on your behalf using our key. Anthropic processes it under its own terms and privacy policy. We pass it through without storing its content; we record only the aggregate usage described above.
Speech-to-text
Transcription happens entirely on your machine. The speech-to-text model ships inside the app — nothing is downloaded at first use, and no footage, no audio, no transcripts, and no other user content is sent anywhere. Transcription works fully offline.
Update checks
The app periodically requests our update manifest. Like any web request, this transmits your IP address and the app version. We do not log or profile this.
